Port Townsend Canvas Co. specializes in custom marine canvas work.
We create dodgers, sail covers, small-boat covers, flybridge covers, hatch covers, winch covers, hand-rail covers, binnacle and instrument covers, interior and exterior cushions, shipwrights aprons, and other custom canvas products.
We recommend and work primarily with Sunbrella marine fabrics, which are UV-resistant, water-repellant and very durable. We reinforce our canvas products with chafe, puncture and mildew resistant Top Gun fabric, an acrylic-coated texturized woven polyester. Our goal is to provide you with a fully functional, good-looking and long-lasting product.
Port Townsend Canvas is conveniently located in the lower level of the sail loft building next to Point Hudson Marina in downtown Port Townsend See Map. Our shop is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday, or by appointment.
We offer a free design consultation aboard your boat if it’s within a 20-mile radius from Port Townsend.
Testimonials
"Port Townsend Canvas recently replaced our mainsail cover and installed a new dodger for our S2 sailboat. We were referred to this company by one of their previous customers and now we know why that person was so pleased. Port Townsend Canvas is highly professional and they do exactly what they say they will do with extremely high quality. We highly recommend them for any canvas or dodger work, as we couldn't be more pleased!" -- Tom Green and Sherri Wills-Green Portland/Port Townsend
"We are in our 70's, with a 41`-foot sloop. We needed a dodger badly, and more. Port Townsend Canvas did an excellent job at integrating our needs for sturdy safety hand holds with the dodger structure. It even provides purchase for coming aboard from a dingy without bending the gate stantions. Now our cockpit is not only sheltered, but much safer under sail. The ability to get about the entire (long) cockpit is much easier for a sailor of any age. Good job." -- S&V, Kala Point.
"I recently purchased a new mainsail for my C&C 99 and had the opportunity in working with Port Townsend Canvas in designing and making a sail cover for the new main. Everything was done in a timely fashion, the workmanship was outstanding and the fit is perfect. I would highly recommend this company to anyone needing canvas work done." -- Ron Cooper Omaha/Seattle
Dodgers
We bend our dodger frames from stainless steel tubing with a 0.065 wall thickness. All hardware is heavy-duty stainless steel and we through-bolt the deck mounts. The clear vinyl windows are 0.040mm Strataglass, which is scratch and UV-resistant. Choose an aft grab handle that is welded to the frame and/or side grab handles that are through-bolted to the frame. We also offer a detachable cockpit awning that zips to the aft edge of the dodger and ties to the backstay.
Sail Covers
Our sail covers envelop the entire boom with cut-outs for the topping lift or lazy jacks. The luff area around the mast is reinforced with Top Gun fabric to protect the cover from hardware chafe. We recommend Common Sense twist-lock fasteners instead of zippers.
Small-Boat Covers
We create custom covers for trailerable small boats, including rowing and sculls, that can add years onto the life of your finish. We can build pop-outs for oarlocks, etc., depending on your needs
Misc. Canvas Products
Port Townsend Canvas has experience with a full spectrum of custom marine canvas products, including flybridge covers, hatch covers, winch covers, hand-rail covers, binnacle and instrument covers, interior and exterior cushions, and shipwrights aprons. If it can be made out of canvas, we can probably make it—just ask!
